Sixty-three: Let Me Tell You Something, Man…

I’m
too proud,
too sensitive,
too scared
to lie back,
close my eyes,
and hope for the best.

I’m smiling,
I know,
but
I’m also
circling
your words
like a vulture,
waiting for the
wrong one,
any excuse
to run
and hope
that I didn’t
just

fail

some test.

Let me tell you something, man,
I will be sweet cherry pie
until
the moment
I spook
(I’m a
scaredy cat
like that).

I live by a simple recipe
that I can
never seem
to apply to
myself.
And I know
that blows
(in a way that
I don’t do to you
yet) but

I’m
too proud,
too sensitive,
too scared
to be
anything other than
sugar sweet
and
distant at
the same time.

Think of me like foreign chocolate.
